Neu auf den Plattentellern – Das Münchner Schallplattenlabel apparent extent präsentiert nach „You Don’t Love Me Yet“ das zweite Album der schwedischen Künstlerin Johanna Billing, „This Is How We Walk on the Moon“.

„This Is How We Walk on the Moon“ präsentiert den Soundtrack zur gleichnamigen Videoinstallation von Johanna Billing, die 2007 auf der documenta 12 in Kassel uraufgeführt wurde. Der knapp 27-minütige Kurzfilm, der im Seehafen von Edinburgh spielt, entstand im Kontext eines Aufenthaltsstipendiums, das Johanna Billing nach Edinburgh in die Collective Gallery führte. Im Rahmen der Programmreihe "1 Mile", die Kooperationen zwischen KünstlerInnen und Leuten, die im Radius von einer Meile zur Galerie leben initiierte, lud Johanna Billing örtliche MusikerInnen zum Segelunterricht ein. Ähnlich wie in Godards „One Plus One“ werden wir Augenzeuge eines stillen kollektiven Lernprozesses einer „Band“ im ruhigen Abseits revolutionärer Zeiten. Der Film ist Musikclip und Dokumentation zugleich.

Das suggestive, titelgebende musikalische Thema stammt von Arthur Russell: „This Is How We Walk on the Moon“ ist einer der großen Hits auf „Another Thought“, einem posthum veröffentlichten Album des US-amerikanischen Musikers und Produzenten.

"This Is How We Walk on the Moon", mit einem Gespräch zwischen Jacob Fabricius (Direktor der Malmö Konsthall) und Johanna Billing im Posterformat, wurde 2008 von apparent extent in Zusammenarbeit mit der Malmö Konsthall und Mercer Union, A Centre for Contemporary Art, Toronto, produziert. Design Abäke.

Johanna Billing über den Song: “This song has stayed with me for a number of years and I’ve always been very fascinated by the sentence: This is how we walk on the moon. That such a small word, ‘this’, can contain so much – it seems to me as if he’s trying to describe ‘this is what we in particular do today, in this particular ›now‹.’ History has described walking on the moon as man’s – or rather mankind’s – great step or leap. Today, forty years later, it’s interesting to think about what now constitutes a great step, or a step into new or unknown territory. And to consider the relationship between what is regarded as being a great step for people at the individual level and for the society we live in.”
